Either way - the claim that the wireless power revolution being finally upon is has come true at long last - the technology has been invented and refined, and now it is in the process of being widely distributed across industry, retail, offices and homes.

There's also a great article from CNET titled "Long-distance wireless charging could power your smart home" that looked at Ossia, Energous and other wireless power companies, so the revolution is real, and this is the decade we'll really see it in action.

For us Power & Revolution: 2022 Edition is the best political game that you can currently play in 2022. However, not only can you play as the leader of your country, but you can also choose to play as the opposition and attempt to get yourself elected. Even better though, you can try and start a revolution and take control by force.

Reuel Marc Gerecht: Those are excellent questions. I'm inclined to think that Iran is more dissimilar than similar. I mean, it has really gone through, both a modernizing secular dictatorship, which sparked the revolution, and it's gone through theocracy. I mean, it really is the only state in the region to have gone through both, so far. And in each of those events, those periods, I think the Iranians have learned a lot. And there's been a 100 year tradition in Iran of what you might say the commonwealth trying to restrict the power of the sovereign. You have also had the growth, and it's real, of a democratic spirit. You always have to remember that the Islamic Revolution really started off with two pillars, two poles. One was religious, and the other was democratic. And that is one reason why the Islamic Republic maintained some form of democracy, however controlled, because it was important and it was legitimate to express that yearning, that aspiration. And I would argue that the regime made a serious mistake, when the Supreme Leader decided that democratic side of the Islamic Republic was too dangerous... that after the troubles of late 1990s with Mohammad Khatami and what was then a real reform movement with the pro-democracy green movement, the decision was made that they really couldn't trust democracy anymore, that it had to be completely controlled. By doing that, they actually shut down a pressure valve, an escape valve, that allowed dissatisfaction with the regime to actually have a way out, where you could have the elected government have some control in the system, some ability to affect the lives of Iranians. That has vanished. And with it, I think it's increased the pressure on the regime significantly, which is why even small demonstrations or just the killing of one girl can explode into something that the regime has great difficulty handling.

In November 2019, T. H. Breen showed how ordinary Americans, far from the halls of power and the fields of battle, turned a faltering rebellion into an enduring Revolution to create a country based on the will of the people. The program is available to re-watch for free online.

Although the freedom of private discussion and personal expression improved dramatically after 2011, the ongoing hostilities have taken their toll, with many Libyans increasingly withdrawing from public life or avoiding criticism of powerful figures. Numerous examples of kidnappings and killings of activists, politicians, and journalists have added to the general deterrent effect. Conditions for personal expression are considerably worse in the east than in the west, where residents have somewhat more freedom to criticize government authorities though violent reprisals for critical speech have been reported in both areas.

From 1901 on, the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (renamed the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company in 1931), a British oil company, enjoyed a monopoly on sale and production of Iranian oil. It was the most profitable British business in the world.[57] Most Iranians lived in poverty while the wealth generated from Iranian oil played a decisive role in maintaining Britain at the top of the world. In 1951, Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh pledged to throw the company out of Iran, reclaim the petroleum reserves and free Iran from foreign powers.

Worse for the Shah was that the Western media, especially the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), immediately put Khomeini into the spotlight.[14][132] Khomeini rapidly became a household name in the West, portraying himself as an "Eastern mystic" who did not seek power, but instead sought to "free" his people from "oppression." Many western media outlets, usually critical of such claims, became one of Khomeini's most powerful tools.[14][102]

After the success of what would become known as a revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini returned to Iran as its religious and political leader for life. Khomeini had been an opposition leader to Shah for many years, rising to prominence after the death of his mentor, renowned scholar Yazdi Ha'iri, in the 1930s.[138] Even in his years in exile, Khomeini remained relevant in Iran. Supporting the protests from beyond Iran's borders, he proclaimed that "freedom and liberation from the bonds of imperialism" was imminent.[138]

Much of Iranian society was in euphoria about the coming revolution. Secular and leftist politicians piled onto the movement hoping to gain power in the aftermath, ignoring the fact that Khomeini was the very antithesis to all of the positions they supported.[6] While it was increasingly clear to more secular Iranians that Khomeini was not a liberal, he was widely perceived as a figurehead, and that power would eventually be handed to the secular groups.[6][117]

Increasing contact was established with the pro-Khomeini camp. Based on the revolutionaries' responses, some American officials (especially Ambassador Sullivan) felt that Khomeini was genuinely intent on creating a democracy.[6] According to historian Abbas Milani, this resulted in the United States effectively helping to facilitate Khomeini's rise to power.[6][141][142] 041b061a72
